OK, so the old fingernails on a blackboard is pretty much right up there in sounds that hurt my teeth, but there are so many more. Topping the list:
A bicycle kickstand scraping on asphalt.
A knife scraping against a ceramic plate.And number one by a mile:
The sound of an egg carton (cardboard is bad, styrofoam is worse) rubbing against a paper grocery bag.
Max hates the sound of silverware rubbing together, but what a coincidence--putting away silverware from the dishwasher happens to be his chore.Sean's vote: his sister singing Glee karaoke.

I'm with you about the silverware. And chalkboards. Our A/C also makes this weird rattle when the cooling cycle kicks on, and it just drives me crazy.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, definitely the chalkboard. Just thinking about it makes a shiver go up my spine. I concur that the sound of a knife or fork skidding across a china plate also causes my skin to crawl.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I've never gotten used to is the ultra-high squeal that little girls can emit when they're excited, happy, angry, annoyed or all of the above ... how do they do it? I'm sure it must be in the octave range of shattering crystal and glass!
Very easy! The sound of chewing drives me nuts. It's gross when people chew with their mouth open.
